[Hallicrafters] microphone

Hello Ted,
I'm suggesting these because they are reasonably priced. This is just
my opinion. I like the D-104 and the EV-638. They both look and sound
good. With a good element the D-104 is hard to beat. I once asked a
similar question and was advised to get an EV-664. This may not be
the popular opinion but the EV-664 sounds mushy, especially on AM. I
think with a factory base the 664s are a true work of Art (no pun
intended) but have no punch.
Like most things it comes down to personal choice. If you have an old
MC-50 sitting around give it a try. It sounds good but lacks the
classic American look. Some of the old mobile mics sound very good,
many are dry rotted and crumbling on the insides, so try before you
buy. Any good quality Hi-Z mic ( with a good element) should work ok.
Dont check with an ohm meter, many of the voice coils can get fried
by the meter.
