The only difference between the SX-99 and SX-110 is
the front panel, type of dials, and the mechanical
arrangements to accomodate the slide-rule bandspread
dial. If you have a 99 manual, or especially a Sams
Photofact for a 99, you will find that the 110 is
electrically, and largely mechanically identical. The
chassis layout and tube lineup are identical, as is
the component placement.
The S-85 and S-108 are other sources of the coil you
need. The front ends are identical. In fact, the 85
and 108 are the same radio behind a different panel,
just like the 99/110. The 85 is the 99 without
crystal filter and S-meter, just as the 108 is the 110
without these features.
If you're curious, study the design of the
1939-vintage SX-24, and you'll discover the antecedent
of the 99/110. In the same manner, the S-20R became
the S-40 series with a new cabinet and some tube type
updates, then underwent some further tube changes and
a slight adjustment in upper-limit frequency coverage
to morph into the S-85 and then the S-108.
