[Hallicrafters] S-38E Bottom Covers

Most if not all of the bottom covers on these receivers are warped. Your
options are to keep it the way it is or replace it with something reasonably
similar. I have been replacing them due to the warping but I just tried
something else and it works reasonably well.

When I was a kid, I remember ironing dollar bills and they came out very
flat with all the wrinkles gone. I though why not try this on the bottom
cover of the S-38E since it is also paper just thicker. Warmed up the xyl's
iron, made sure it had water and put the warped bottom cover on a towel and
had at it, heat, steam and pressure.

After a short while, the cover started to straighten out. Applying lots of
pressure and steam works well. While not quite perfect, I now have a nice
mostly flat cover that was at one time pretty badly warped and would have
been replaced.

Just thought I would pass this along.
