The tubes get high voltage besides the filament voltage which lights them
up... This sounds like you have no high voltage from the power supply. If
the s-meter was reacting but no sound, you could localize the problem to the
audio stage. As you have no S-meter movement either, it definitely points to
lack of plate voltage. Start troubleshooting the power supply section, but
keep one hand in your pocket...

BTW did you only study solid-state technology?
