[Hallicrafters] Scope

I think the best scope you can buy based on price and utility for boat
anchor servicing is probably a Tektronix 453A or a 454A. I have seen
several working 453A's for around $50/60. It may or may not have probes for
that price but a 10X 100MHz probe is not very expensive. I've bought them
for $2/3. A manual is nice to have and readily available on eBay but you
want to shop as the prices vary widely. For instance, I just got a HP
manual for a 410C VTVM on eBay for 99 cents while others have a starting
price much higher. Also, watch the ones that are offered on CD. Quire
often they are simply copies of what is available for free on some web
sites.

I may be mistaken, but I think the 453A and the 454A are basically the same
scope except the 454A has about twice the bandwidth which may be nice but
really not necessary for boat anchor servicing.

Manuals for the 453, 453A, 454, and 454A are available for downloading on
the BAMA web site.

I want to thank the following guys,--- David C.,Steve,Ed and Michael for
there input on test equipment. Now new question,--- what scope would be
good for rec, xmitters. I have checked out the E website and have found
many scopes. Many come without probes, manual etc. 50mhz-100mhz range from
what I can tell but again money is an issue. Tnx for reading and your
input. Dave WB6BIL.
