What will we do with our Halicrafters tube radios when HD Radio becomes the standard?
HD AM Radio is hear, although the receivers are somewhat pricey. AM HD is digital, fade and static free and with stereo quality equal to current FM Stereo. FM HD will be in stereo 5.1 surround sound with CD quality and several music formats simultaneously. Just think of the "commercial" possibilities. However as of now no music CDs have 5.1 encoded.
With all the circuits it takes in a SX 101 just to receive SSB, one will require an additional room in the Ham Shack to house sufficient tubes and parts to receive HD. Or will we end up with a cell phone size appliance instead of several communication receivers?
Will Hams permitted to transmit in Digital? Just think of how many channels would be available on the Ham bands with Digital.
