Well guys, live and learn.
Gary is indeed right. The inside of my gold (brass probably) rings on =
the
SX-71 is silver. This is just like the volume control ring on the SX-42 =
and
the tuning knobs on the SX-43.
I really thought I caught you Gary. I guess, I oughtta know better. =
8^)

I have two SX-71's, later models and both have the silver ring in the =
main
tune and bandspread knobs. If your ring is gold, it is only because the
silver plating has worn off.
