[Hallicrafters] 2 wire to 3 wire mod.

I hated to use the word "ream" but that's what I did. The old strain relief
the 2 piece clamping type was a smaller size then the strain relief for a 3
wire cord. I did not ream or drill the old relief out, I just squeezed it
with pliers and if crumbled. Using calipers, I determined the hole needed
to be widened only about 1/16". This was sufficient to accommodate the new
cord and strain relief (plastic clamping type).
I hate changing anything this way also but, it was the cleanest and best say
mechanically that could be accomplished and still maintain the unit in
original condition. The hole is clean, not messy and the new strain relief
hides any minor imperfections, if any. All in all, it looks factory fresh.
Thanks to all for your ideas.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] 2 wire to 3 wire mod.
From Bill Gerhold re. SX-117
"I replaced the 2 wire line cord with a 3 wire. This required some
chassis
mods but it came out nice. The mod included the reaming out of the AC
line access hole for a larger cord and strain relief. "
Hi Bill,
I have changed several 2-wire to 3-wire power lines. Instead of
reaming out the chassis, I ream out the plastic strain relief until the
3-wire fits and has sufficient strain relief. I hate modifying things
that can't be un-modified.
