"money-is no-object" votes:

Tube type: Collins designed R-390A (there's none better!) or Hammarlund 
designed SP-600 (fun band cruiser)

older solid state: Harris RF-590 (still supported by Harris)

new solid state: Ten Tec RX-340 or upcoming RX-440 (with VHF and UHF 
coverage)
