[Hallicrafters] SX-23 History?

I recently acquired a SX-23 ("Skyrider 23") receiver, and have been
researching the history of this model. A search of my "QST" library shows
that Hallicrafters introduced the SX-23 in March of 1939, with several
pages of advertising. By the May 1940 issue of QST, the SX-23 was no
longer listed in the Henry Radio ad. This seems like a short life for the
SX-23.

Can anyone provide more background info on the SX-23? What was the
intended market for this receiver? The list price (with speaker) was
$127.50. Did buyers consider it over-priced, compared to the competition?
Was the set too expensive to manufacture? It seems that Hallicrafters put
a lot of effort in a design that faded rather quickly.

Any comments would be much appreciated!
