[Hallicrafters] HT-32, good audio

A good friend of mine who shall remain nameless acquired a beautiful 
HT-32 and SX-115 pair but after using the HT-32 a bit, changing 
microphones, trying a bit of an audio chain,  concluded that the HT-32 
was just never going to sound decent -- way too narrow.   I'm trying to 
change his mind because, gosh, I want to listen to it.

So I need ammunition.  Can anyone point me to any information on 
polishing up HT-32 audio.
