[Hallicrafters] Why I'm a Hallicrafters Guy

While I was at Keesler I was told the air plane engine sound that was used
in the classrooms to torture the diddybops was recorded on the Keesler
flightline. Someone went down there and placed a mike near one of the T-28
trainers as the engine was run up. If I recall the T-28 had a 1200 hp
radial engine and made plenty of noise. One of my main regrets in life is
that even though the base flying club would rent you one of several light
planes such as a Piper Tri Pacer or Aroneca Champ or Tri Champ for 5 bucks
an hour the instructor was another 5 bucks an hour and my airman 2nd
paycheck just would not stretch to cover both the plane and the ugly old
cigar chomping instructor at the same time. They even had a Beechcraft
Mentor T-34 trainer you could rent. I never even bothered asking how much
that or a T-28 would cost. And to top off my young stupidity I never even
thought about joining the base Ham club and getting a licence many years
earlier than I eventually did. We get too soon old and too late smart.
