You do not want to miss the Sunday May 1, 2005 HCI 20 meter Net! We shall add a
footnote to the history of Hallicrafters. You will hear a voice most of you have
never heard before, that of William Halligan, Sr. the founder of the
Hallicrafters company. I will play several excerpts from a forty-five minute
private interview he did while in New York City when he was presented with the
David Sarnoff Citation presented by RCA.
This was recorded on video tape by none other than a friend of the Halligan
family from Switzerland who was living in an apartment in NYC while serving a
very special international role. His name? Dr. Max De Henseler, HB9RS, author of
the 1979 "The Hallicrafters Story". I have the audio of that one on one private,
laid back, casual interview/dialogue between two friends. To the best of my
knowledge, the video has never been made public by Dr. Henseler, so the audio
you will hear has also never been heard by the world. My very special thanks to
Dr. Henseler for arranging for this incredible surprise in Saturday April 30th's
mail! Stay tuned, I will have more surprises for you Hallicrafters lovers in the
weeks ahead!
What a wonderful gesture on the part of Dr. Henseler to share with us these
historic moments in time he captured on video tape with William Halligan, Sr.
and has now entrusted all Hallicrafters devotees to keep these memories alive
and to not permit them to ever be forgotten and this page of Hallicrafters
history allowed to become so much dust on the floors of history's halls. What is
revealed during this fantastic interview shows different aspects of William
Halligan, Sr. the man, the visionary, the electronic brilliance and snapshots of
Hallicrafters never before shared.
Exactly how much I am permitted to reveal is totally up to Dr. Henseler, as this
interview is his private and sole property. But you do NOT want to miss a single
word of it, as it is absolutely spell binding to hear William Halligan, Sr.
talking about his life himself!
The pre-Net will commence at 12:45 PM EDT, (1645 UTC). The Net proper starts at
1:15 PM EDT, (1715 UTC). The frequency is 14.293 MHZ +/- for key clicks, mike
splatter and the sound of a trained crew of imported Tibetan Woodpeckers
genetically breed to have Titanium beaks tipped with industrial diamonds to turn
the huge eight inch diameter branch hanging from their fungus fed Dutch Elm that
collapsed under the weight of the heavy snow last Sunday and landed on top of my
#12 gauge solid Copper 150 foot longwire SW antenna into fungus filled
toothpicks guaranteed to infect your toenails! Coming soon, the story of the
blind man with unwanted log guest hanging out in his yard, taking a nap on his
shed roof, ripping his TV tower off the house with a leafy swat, blowing up his
double bazooka and more, as police blame the insurance people, who blame the
home owner, who does not speak English and blames the Termites for not eating
the darn tree as they were hired to do!
I hope to hear many of you later today as we make May a month to remember by
kicking it off with leftover April showers causing these May flowers to bloom as
the Hallicrafters live on tape moments in time bounce off the rings of Saturn,
prance through the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, do a quick loop
around backwards rotating forever retrograde Venus and come down on the third
rock from old Sol to be heard by all of those who love to keep those wonders
that still go glow in the dark lit! Hopefully old Sol won't vent some way down
yonder in the bowels of its core gas and cause the propagation waves to get the
old double dribble effect and end up again on Russian TV resulting in some very
peculiar dialogue in the Soccer playoff games! So tune in and let's meet William
Halligan, Sr. up close and totally pleasant.
