Yes, the Hammarlund chassis is cadmium plated, and it's definitely
brighter than when new.  Flitz works fine on aluminum, although a bit
more polishing is necessary if you really want to approach a mirror-like
finish.  It's not original, but looks cool.

Flitz seems to leave a thin wax-like clearcoat (for lack of proper
terminology, a chemist I am not) that seems to prevent or at least slow
future oxidation.  I recently had the HQ-110A illustrated on the desk
for a bench check.  After a compressed air dusting, necessary here as
this QTH is a dust magnet, the polished shine came right back as applied
in the picture years ago.
