Aside from the follow-on post to this one about the trucker scam, this
subject came up just yesterday on the local 2m repeater. One of our locals
had a call from his mom about a Hammarlund SP-600 that needed to be removed
from the old homestead, and another suggested Back Seat (with seatbelt) as
the safest transfer method, to avoid all the detailed work of removing,
marking and packing tubes and blocking heavy transformers (mounted on light
aluminum chassis), etc. etc. You (as driver) are then in control of, and
aware of, any jouncing your prize gets along the way.
My XYL the excellent Donna KE6PNC reminded me of shipping bulky items
(furniture comes to mind) by Greyhound. I'd still want it packed right,
but it goes onto one bus in the under-storage at origin, and comes off that
same bus at destination (assuming no transfers enroute.) Meet it at the
station. And probably one of the less expensive modes, compared to UPS,
FedEx, DHL etc. And is there still rail-freight for heavies?
Just a random neuron-firing, and yet another way to get it there. But
don't pack and ship yourself airfreight; you may not be in a pressurized
cabin all the way! :-O !
