Hallicrafters people,
For those of you who live in areas where the line voltage is high, or if
you're just uncomfortable running that old Halli on 125VAC, here's a solution. I
know there are a number of small transformer boost/buck gizmos available,
but how about an actual line voltage stabilizer? Problem is, the things are
normally expensive, but here's the good news. A surplus outfit is offering a
whole series of these things really cheap. Why? Because they were designed to
produce 110VAC at the output, and most people in the US today design around
120VAC. But, THEY ARE JUST PERFECT FOR OLD BOATANCHORS. They range in size from
500VA to 2KVA. The 2KVA is probably big enough to run your boatanchor
transmitter as well. Price is between $39.00 and $69.00. I bought one of the 1KVA
models and it works perfectly. They are made in Japan, but appear to be good
quality.
I don't have any association with this outfit, but thought some of you might
want to check it out. I feel I found a real bargain. The company is on the
web at _http://www.mjpa.com_ (http://www.mjpa.com)
On the left side, select "Power Supplies" then select "AC Stabilizers."
If you get one, be careful to plug into the right outlet on the back. One of
the outlets is 220..

Doug Moore
