Maybe you could whack it on the bench once or twice to see if it comes back 
to life!

Quite some time ago, I got a D-104 replacement crystal element. The defunct 
one is still around here somewhere, maybe I should try whacking that one. 
hehe.. I suspect the crystal has turned to dust, though.  Or will when I 
whack it!

The venerable General Radio 650A RLC bridge has a "Microphone Hummer" in it 
to generate the 1000 cycles needed for AC measurements if you run the thing 
on batteries.  If the hummer does not run, a tap or two will often get it 
started again. The carbon granules in the microphone need a jolt.
