After fondling the $4000 SX-88 at Dayton, I dragged home a 30$ SX-96 orphan
for $30, figuring the SX-88 couldn't be 130 times better....

Decision probably colored by fond memories of an SX-96 being the first real
SW receiver I ever saw, at my best friend's house, after school in eigth grade
- a neighbor fixed him up for 50$ - he turned it on, a KL7 came through at 30
over 9 through the R46, and I was sold, mostly envious............but I
digress.

A few resistors and caps later, the radio's sounding good but for two things:

1) it overloads on SSB at the highest RG gain settings - I know when working
right the radio holds its own here - is there a likely suspect before
recapping the whole thing, or at least the AVC line?

2) the oscillator pulls at 28 mhz on strong signals - I've seen this on a
couple SX100's and figure there must be a cause/fix known to the initiated.
Anyone want to fess up?

3) and of course, it needs a tuning knob - is anyone selling repros or have
an SX96 or SX100 knob? I know a knob in reasonable shape is virtually
unobtainium - on the other hand there was one on the 30$ radio :)

Thanks, Scott
