> The Imron 2 part is very durable and costly.
And it's the wrong kind of paint for the Hallicrafter's restoration as well.
> Most airline paint shops use full suits when painting it.
I use the upper body hood/kjacket along with a pair of coveralls.
The drawback to that is it takes more air to keep the hood ventilated and
filled with fresh air which is the reason I like the low pressure, high
volume air supply.
Another nice thing about todays hoods or suits is the face plate. It's
covered with many layers of thin plastic, much like Saran Wrap (TM). When
it gets dirty, covered with paint, or scuffed, you just reach up, grab a
pull tab and peel off a layer. Instant clean and in good condition face
plate.
I prefer to wear it even when spray painting enamle with the gun. Besides,
it keeps me from having to wash my arms in paint thinner.
> Why do they use ? Because is is the best.
Just think of how the rain stings when it's really windy. Then think of what
it'd feel like at 200 to 600 MPH. It'll eventually take the paint right off
the leading edges of the wings even at 200 MPH. I wonder why it doesn't
seem to take the bugs off.
> The last time I used it the price was around $400.00 a gallon, now who
Depends on the supplier, but depending on the color make up it varies some
where between $200 and $500 a gallon.
I have the equipment, so I prefer to use a spray gun rather than spray cans.
Also having enamle mixed is *relatively* inexpensive. However, if I were
only going to be painting a cabinet or two, or didn't have another reason
for the equipment it would be a tad of over kill for painting equipment. I
would add that "clean up" can be as much work as setting up and doing the
paining.
Now if you want hazardous painting, my shop floor has 4 coats of 2 part
epoxy. The chemicals in that also required a hood which I didn't have at
the time. That was some nasty smelling stuff and highly flamable.
How to make a paint hood:
I started with a large garbage bag and a face shield. I turned the bag
inside out, taped the face shield to the side of the bag, but the bag away
from the front of the face shield and put arm holes in the bag. I took a
one inch sump pump hose and hooked it to a large squirrel cage fan (no
vacuum cleaner blower), and using duct tape, fastened the hose to my back at
my waist and just under my shoulders. The end of the hose was at the back
of my head.
This also saves shirts and glasses. Even enamle from a spray can can make a
real mess on glasses and particularly if they are the new light weight
plastic lenses. There is very little you can use to get the paint off that
won't ruin the lens. Denatured alcohol works well if the paint hasn't dried
yet, or at least it has for me.

I wouldn't, except I have it for other reasons, such as painting an
airplane.
However, using a good spray gun makes it a lot easier to do a cabinet, or
cover without over spray lines and in general they just do a better and more
consistent job. Still, getting into a small spot can be a real challenge.
> Then the purist would say it was not original color etc. etc. etc.
I doubt you'd be able to match the finish with the two part mixes as they
are really shiny. (but they sure are durable)
