Actually, 6883 tubes are just as easy, if not easier,
to find than 6146 tubes. The commercial two-way FM
market had all sorts of 6883 and 6883A/8032 tubes and
they show up all the time at very good prices. Just
remember that the 6883B/8032A/8552 tubes are the 12
volt equivalent of the 6146B and are actually a
different tube from the 6146 and the 6146A/8298 or the
6883 and the 6883A/8032 tubes.
For the article that was in Electric Radio a while
back, and has been reprinted by several other
publications, go to either website the URL of which is
listed at the end of this message.

Why couldn't you simply wire the 6146 filaments in
series to run from 12 V instead of using the
harder-to-find 6883's ?
That way you KNOW you'd be able to find replacements.
