One caution. Those who make mods, while the mod is clear in your
mind, write it down on a "price tag", a sturdy one with milspec
style wire ties. 

"WARNING - FINAL REWIRED TO 6883 6/2005"  and show the pinout.
Then attach the tag to the back of the radio such that it cannot be
easily removed.

I guarentee that in twenty years someone will appreciate this.

I have a Signal/One CX7A that has a 4CX350F in place of the 8072.  

There are wires hanging out the back and a small circuit board with
a regulator on it.
