The call of the main Vatican amateur radio station was HV1CN (I have cards).
This was used by W9AC, W2BIB, and Dom (the I1 QSL Mgr/Station Mgr). The
station was located in the Vatican City. HV3SJ was Father Ed (Society of
Jesuits) and he was operating from his apartment about 3 blocks away. He
was several years later than the 1961-2 HV1CN operations. I am not even
sure HV1CN is a current license.
Besides W9AC's operation from HV1CN (Mostly SSB) famous DXers/Contesters
W9IOP and W8DUS operated CW from there on two occassions. This was written
up in CQ magazine. W8DUS was the CEO of Electro-Voice abd when he retired
he co-founded Ten-Tec and was K4FW. He just became a SK.
W9AC was Bill H's last call sign. In the 60's you could both a primary and
secondary call. In the 1970's the FCC forced everyone to choose.
