Hank & group -
I can attest that it can, in fact, make the older phenolic wafers
swell causing the switch to bind up. Had this happen years ago with
the bandswitch of my old SX-28A. Can't recall off the top of my head
what the cure was, maybe alcohol? (for the wafer, not me). Something
will indeed purge it from the wafers.
With newer switches, I've not run into the same problem. Whether the
material is less porous or I'm just more careful, couldn't say. I do
know that there were plenty of cases where I just sprayed away with no
later problems, but the SX-28A sure didn't like it.
Unfortunately, it's one of those things that you can only varify in
person when you attempt to change bands. From a smooth 'clunk' to a
very tight twist with little confirmation of the fact that it has
snapped into place. Judicious use wouldn't likely cause problems, but
just soaking the thing with spray sure does.
Live and learn!
