We used a product called NuTrol in our 2-way shop for years and years.  We 
cleaned EVERYTHING with that stuff, and never had a problem with switch 
wafers "swelling".  One manufacturer at one time used some synthetic 
material for a 10K pot and the NuTrol reacted with it.  But I personally 
have cleaned thousands of rotary, slide and lever switches and countless 
pots of every description with NuTrol and Tuner-Lube and NEVER encountered 
the problem described in an earlier post.
