.01 is .01 is .01.  If it looks like a capacitor and acts like a capacitor,
it is probably a capacitor.

I think most differences are simply in the packaging.  Other manufacturing
concerns are temperature stability, insulating materials, environmental,
frequency of use and application i.e. audio, RF, DC etc.  But, .01 is still
.01.

The insulating materials, paper, oil, wax, mica, glass, ceramic, air, are
dictated by application.
