Hi Ted,

Probably the most sought after Hallicrafters receiver is the SX-88.  It is 
not that good a receiver and the price you would pay for one is way out of line, 
due to the fact that there were not many made.

There are several good receivers around that will fill the bill. Among them 
are the SX-101 series and the SX-122.  Also the SX-117 is a nice all round 
receiver.  The main drawback is that none of these cover the WARC bands if that is 
important to you.There are many other. There are many others that will fill 
the bill and you will no doubt hear from other folks about what they consider 
best.  The above are my personal suggestions.
