I will see if I can locate my service data. However, as I remember, band
four has the LO switched from the other three. The image is below on the
three low bands and above on band 4 as I remember.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] S-38 Alignment
I recently restored an original s-38, and am about to complete the
alignment. It,s my understanding that image rejection on this receiver
leaves something to be desired, especially on bands 3 and 4. The radio
works great, but it appears to me that on some bands the image appears
ABOVE the tuned signal by 910 kHz, and on band 3 it appears BELOW the
tuned signal by 910 kHz.
Is this normal, or has the previous owner mis-aligned the local
oscillator on band 3. I have the service notes from BAMA, but the
alignment steps say nothing about the image. It was my understanding
that the LO usually operated 455 kHz above the incomong signal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Brent Seres
