The Optivisor is a headband mounted binocular magnifier favored by 
jewelers and model makers. Many crafts stores and hobby shops carry them 
(and cheaper imitations).  The "genuine" Optivisor can be purchased with 
your choice of magnifications and working distances. The #3 lens has a 
magnification of 1.75 and a working distance of 14 inches, which is well 
suited for poking into old radios (for me, anyway).  There are models 
with interchangeable lenses, too, and some accessories are available.

prices are as good as I've found and, in my experience, their service is 
reliable.  That's not an endorsement, just a personal observation.
