Bill et al,
A friend had something similar happen to his National NC-125. No wait -
it was surely a Hallicrafters. I remember now, it was a Hallicrafters
NC-125. The receiver still worked except on the band that had been
selected when it got zorched. We quickly zeroed in on the antenna coil.
He was bemoaning where we would ever find a replacement coil as I was
disassembling the old one. Under the microscope there was a clear weld
spot where the wire to the top of the coil crossed the bottom-most
winding. I carefully broke the weld with my Xacto knife and put it all
back together - good as new.
Never give up on the 'repair' option!
Cheers, Rich
