[Hallicrafters] S-76 Weak BFO

I had a problem with an SX-101A. SSB/CW volume significantly lower than
AM. Other than that it worked fine but I'd have to crank up the audio
gain. Suspected BFO circuit. All component values checked ok but
voltages at detector pins were weak from BFO. Long story short, someone
had installed a BFO coil/cap can from another rig (I think an sx-117). I
pulled one out of a SX-96 parts rig (same values as SX-101A) and that
was it. Plenty of BFO then and audio where it should be. I'd check the
capacitor across the BFO coil in the can. You may have to take the can
out of the chassis to change that cap (sometimes 2 caps in parallel, one
being temp. comp.) Good luck.

Im having a similar problem with my S76. Just began restoring it this
week
and would appreciate any suggestion on how to raise the level.

FYI I just did a realignment and BFO adjustment so Im suspecting
issues
with the capacitors/resistors in the circuit changing values. ??
