[Hallicrafters] FPM-300 fan

In the junk box I have a muffin fan that will mate up to the FPM-300 
mounting holes. Its 115vac and runs and sounds like a jet engine. Is there 
a downside to putting in a series resistance to slow the fan down to a fast 
crawl? On another tx I'm using a 240 fan at 120 and it works fine. In this 
case I dont have a 240 fan that fits. Open to suggestions.
