And that's part of what makes it fun. Actually tubes are very forgiving of  
minor abuse. My second homebrew transmitter back in 1954 was a classic 6AG7 807 
 type. (Probably right out of the handbook.) I couldn't afford a meter to 
monitor  the plate current, so I went by the color of the plate on the 807, and a 
single  turn loop with a #49 lamp stuffed in the tank coil. Before I mastered 
the  technique, I melted a hole in the plate of the first 807, but it kept 
right on  going at only a slight reduction in power.
