[Hallicrafters] SX-111

Continuing with my work on the SX-111 receiver, I solved the slipping dial
by making a thin rubber washer and inserted that on the tuning shaft so when
compressed, provides much more friction and has eliminated the slipping.

A new problem (?) has shown itself but I'm not sure it is a problem or just
a part of the receiver design. When listening to strong SSB signals, S9 or
more, a very distinct distortion or raspiness occurs to the received audio.
I'm thinking I may have and ALC problem but not sure. If I turn the RF gain
down, the raspiness will disappear as long as I can hold the signal below
S9. While not very objectionable, I would like to clean it up if possible.

I remember working on a KWM-2A a while back to modify the ALC circuit for a
fast attack and slow decay and it worked out very well. I think they called
it ALC pumping or something similar. Anyone with any ideas while I have
this receiver out of its case?
