[Hallicrafters] HA-5 mod

I just discovered the HA-5 VFO I picked up last summer had been 
modified, evidently for grid-block keying.  It was done in a way that 
was easily reversible, which I've done and it's back to working 
normally, but I wonder if anyone else has come across this mod?  And why 
someone would do it, since the usual reason of getting the high voltage 
off the key doesn't make as much sense in a VFO.
