An inverted V just as a dipole has no gain. The dipole at 1/2 wave does
have a clean figure 8 and somewhat of a null off the ends.
The inverted V is an attempt to fill in the nulls off the end.
At a low height (say 35 feet on 80) both antennas are nearly onmi
directional on skywave.
I have a pair of vertical dipoles that I can end fire either NE or SW that
do have some gain
at low angles. Stateside is usually down quite a bit over my horizontal
dipole.
Either the dipole or inverted V is a very efficient antenna...just get it up
in the air.
