Recently I asked the net whether anyone had experience with the little 100kc
xtals sold nowadays in place of the larger extra long HC6U types from the
1950s.
Several guys asked me to report back as to whether the little pencil erasure
size xtals work in tube 100kc xtal calibrators.

Well here is ther answer ! YES they do work in place of their larger older
brothers. BUT I notice something a bit strange about them.

When put in a single tube xtal calibrator and when you turn the calibrator
on, it takes about 5 seconds for the unit to begin oscillating. In other words,
for some some strange reason, the little xtals don't begin oscillating
immediately. If you remove the little xtal and install the older larger type, the
calibrator comes on instantly when turned on. Why it works that way I dunno.

So the long and short of it is, if you can wait 5 seconds for the calibrator
signal, the little Mouser 66 cent 100KC crystals will work.
