Rich;

As a rule, anything over .5 mfd is likely to be an electrolytic. They are
usually marked with a polarity, + or -. Paper caps are not polarity
conscious, but may be marked by a stripe around one end or a solder lump
on one lead to identify the outside foil.  This should be connected to
ground for bypass caps and to the plate side for coupling caps, to shield
the other, more sensitive foil.
