[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters HT-37 problem

I recently purchased a Hallicrafter HT-37. It puts out good power on
CW, however for
whatever reason, I cannot seem to get it to work on SSB or AM. This is
probably a
dumb question, but can someone please point me in the right direction?
I am unable to
modulate the rig on voice. Is there something I need to do with the
accessory plug in the
back, such as close a connection or something?  I printed a manual off
of the internet
but the quality is very poor, so I probably overlooked something. I
hope it is some
little gotcha that I overlooked and that this transmitter will work
for me on SSB & AM
without much hassle. Thanks in advance.
