[Hallicrafters] Modify vs restore

I think everyone's right in this instance... the Halli chassis seemed to use some sort of galvanized or zinc plated steel chassis...they're a bear to clean after 40 yrs of ingesting dust and dirt. Ron does point out a good point...there's a time and place for a careful restoration. Not every time, or on every radio, but it bears thinking about before we take spray can or polisher in hand....once "modified" it's not very possible to get back to original. On an S-38 I'd not worry too much, but on a SX-28 I might. Hallis did not come with polished chassis, so doing so is a modification. Perhaps a very nice and very well crafted one, but a mod nonetheless.

It's like a Howard Mills Collins restored receiver...yes, they're beautiful with all the buffed and polished cans, but not original or "restored".

Different strokes!

John
