On my SX-101 and HT-32 panels I use Windex (TM) and a soft paper towel, but
that it with the panels removed. Windex has Ammonia in it and is not good
for Aluminum and should be rinsed off. I don't know as it'd be safe to use
with the panels in place. It's actually a coating of tar as I believe Barry
mentioned and if that's what's on there it will be very evident on the
towel. I turned about 4 or 5 towels yellow before I had the one clean.
409 is bad stuff around Aluminum. It will really corrode Aluminum if any
traces are left behind. I had to replace one of the gear doors on the Deb
after using 409. Those doors are a bit over $400 each. Of course there are
those two, $500 hinges riveted to the doors and a whole bunch of labor that
go along with the rest of the job.
The doors cleaned up nicely and I was careful to give then a thorough rinse
from a hose, but the one started growing white *stuff*. In weeks there were
holes in the inner skin. (The doors are a two layer sandwich)
