Please join us on Sunday August 14th for the HCI 20 meter Net. What are we
celebrating? Actually when Duane was licensed August 13, 1998 as KC8KTX
Technician. October 29, 1998 as a General. December of 1998 as W8DBF and October
2000 as an Extra. This marks the start of my eighth year in Amateur Radio and I
am just as excited today as I was the first day. My first HF contact? W5WP,
David Paperman. Who has been both a great mentor, DX consultant and friend over
the years. Thanks Dave!
We actually had some adjacent state propagation Saturday on the 40 meter Net,
sort of scary, as it had been a long long time! We had a great discussion going
on the VHF hand held unit that Hallicrafters released in 1947, even a Ham who
remembers watching his father use one.
The pre-Net will commence at 12:45 PM EDT, (1645 UTC). The Net proper at 1:15 PM
EDT, (1715 UTC). For those who just can not stand the excitement of waiting, you
can always show up about 12:20 PM EDT when I am trying to get the electrons to
bounce off the D layer at the proper angle so as to not land in Frogzilla's
pond, leaving RF burns on his amphibious hide and have to contend with his
annoying practice involving him using the Hustler 4BTV to sling himself across
the yard in a high arc to splash land in the southernmost end of the pond.
Everytime that lily pad green muscle bound frog manages to shinny up the
vertical my SWR warning alarms go off and everything shuts down, including the
toilet!
The frequency will be 14.293 MHZ usb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter and this
new electronic talking clock that speaks in five different languages, announcing
the time in all five languages every darn time I key the mike! I know there has
got to be some way to get the batteries out of this thing, but so far, my two
pound sledge hammer may be the only tool that works! So if you hear some words
in a sixth language, followed by a smashing sound, you will know what just
happened.
I hope to hear many of you on Sunday! So be there and let's light up those
wonders that still go glow in the dark without having to first ingest any of
those glow in the dark toys we accidentally swallowed as kids!
