A note regarding that 10+ SX-25. Band 4 on the S-20R, SX-24, and SX-25 I believe was an after thought that performed poorly from day one. We like to blame component aging and deterioration, but the truth is the design was second rate. If one tracked on band 4 the day it was purchased, it was simply luck. For those SX-25's that do not there is a remedy that will not alter the appearance and will be removable. To add padding on band 4. Use a grid dipper and a moveable shorted turn or added half loop to the connection and spend about an hour with power off aligning from end to end. The results will be frequency tracking from at least 17MHz to 35MHz and performance to specifications. I have done this to all three models and the results are more than pleasing. The SX-25 is exceptionally vulnerable in that it uses two RF stages that are generally so far out of alignment that they resonate above and below the oscillator from end to end of the band when aligned as per specs.
