[Hallicrafters] prices????

This has been an interesting discussion. I agree E-Bay can seem maddening at 
times but for me it has been a great resource. I live on an island and don't 
get off very often so when I became interested in older radios, the internet 
was key. I bought an HQ 129 for $75, an HQ140 for $55 and an R4C recently 
with the noise blanker and 500hz cw filter for $350. All on E-bay.The R4C 
wasn't a screamin' great deal but I really wanted an R4C, so it was well 
worth it to me.    I had to replace a 3 dollar tube in the '140 and buff the 
knobs with my Dremel tool. It's clean as a whistle. Had to replace the 
on-off switch in the '129 and 2 of the tubes were in the wrong places. Now I 
admit I then went through both radios and replaced a lot of the caps and 
installed newvpower cords but that's why I got them...to learn about them 
and get my hands dirty. I've also seen an HQ140 cabinet (no chassis) go for 
close to $150. I didn't bid on that. I guess my point is....if the price is 
ridiculous, don't buy that one! If you take your time and aren't afraid of 
something that isn't working 100%, there are some great finds on E-bay. Of 
course you take a risk
of getting something with a blown power transformer or something equally 
catostrophic, but hey, life is a gamble..
