I agree with both of you, to a point. A pristine piece of gear does, and
should command a premium price. Three cheers for the collector. My
disagreement is that some sellers on e-bay sell garbage at premium prices.
They dont seem to realize theres a difference between a good usable rig and
that one, thats one in a hundred. Whats worse is that people bid the price
up on the junk. A few morons with too much money set the inflated prices
for us all. I was recently looking for a cap checker and saw an Eico 950b,
in average condition, sell for over $200. I paid $20 for mine a few days
later. The only thing that looked different was the ad. The $200+ ad
mentioned it reforms caps. Power of advertising? To be honest, if I ever
decide to sell my SR-2000 it would be a no brainer not to sell it on e-bay.
You cant blame e-bay, its the speculators pushing up the prices. If you
dont want to pay the price, dont bid.
