The SX-117 will go down to 85KC with the proper heterodyning crystals. 
I have the broadcast band crystals, but at night they're of no use 
without the HA-10 or other pre-selector.

When running in Tranceiver Mode, the HT-44 transmits on the freqency 
selected in the receiver, so you could transmit on 160, or any frequency 
from 85KC to 30MC, including, as the manual warns, a lot of illegal 
frequencies.
