I have read all the previous warnings about putting a 3 prong plug and wire
into vintage equipment. One important point has been missed.
A lot of older homes did not have 3 wire cabling they only had two, hot and
neutral. Code requirements here require a replacement outlet to be two prong
only for those homes. Putting in a 3 prong outlet would lead to a false
sense of security.
Home Depot sells a 2 wire replacement plug and cable assembly that has the
hot wire on a narrow prong and the neutral would go on the larger prong.
This is what I use in my replacement cables.
