When I strip a cabinet I normally use a chemical
stripper.  Make sure and wash with water after using a
manual stripper, putty knife, single edged razor
blade, and so on (you will need all of this normally).
 After the cabinet is dry, you will still need to sand
various areas that the stripper missed.  I use one of
the small vibrating type that use the 1/4 sheet of
sand paper and cost less than $20.
