[Hallicrafters] SX-28A parts nomenclature

I'm refurbishing a SX-28A and have a couple of questions.
1) Is there a way of establishing if it is a 28 or a 28A by serial
number? My understanding is that the 28A has the fuse on the back
which mine has (but could have been added). My s/n is 163132 - is
there a "registry" of s/n for different models?
2) Someone in the past has "butchered" the power supply section
(twisted wires, friction tape, plastic sacks around components, sloppy
soldering, etc.) which I am cleaning up as well as replacing
capacitors. The question is: The parts listing states "Capacitor,
fixed, one unit of dual unit, 40 mfd., 25 v d-c, electrolytic". Does
this mean two 20 mfd. caps tied together (as in a can) which is the
case in my receiver, or something else?
The good news is my SX-28(A?) is otherwise quite clean with no rust
and a good front panel. Doug Moore, KB9TMY -> K6HWY kindly provided me
with the two phenolic antenna and speaker terminals. Thanks Doug. And
thank you to the others who responded to my questions. A great group.
