The braided lead caps in a SX-42 are cathode bypasses in the 1st and 2nd RF 
stages.  Their addition to the SX-42 is described in Hallicrafters Service 
Hint #21 , purpose was described as  "Improve image ratio".  I can provide 
a restored copy of this document to anyone who needs it.
