I would urge all boatanchor luvers to obtain a good signal generator.  If you 
don't have a lot to spend I would highly recommend an inexpensive but super 
accurate WW2 era LM signal generator or BC-221. These units can be picked up 
for around $50 and are well worth it.  Just make sure the original frequency 
book is still with it ( match by serial number on the unit and cover of book ).  
The LM is particularly nice because it has built in 600 hz audio making it a 
cinch to locate the signal on your receiver.
